2015 - 2016 Activities
Canada Culture and English Summer Camp 9th-23rd July, 2016 The 15-day tour was jointly run by Canada-China Culture & Education Association and four Hong Kong secondary schools, including HKTA the Yuen Yuen Institute No.1 Secondary School. Ten of our students participated in the summer camp. The students were engaged in 21.5 hours of English Studies and some capacity-enhancing activities. The lessons and activities were organized by the International Training Centre Division of Thompson Rivers University World (TRU World). During the stay in Kamloops, all the students were arranged to stay with host families and their host parents were all native English speakers. Therefore, the students would have ample opportunities to communicate with their host parents during meal time and weekends. For some students, they may even had the chance to help out with fruit picking at the backyards of their host families. Also, the students had been taken out for hiking or weekend shopping at supermarkets or Farmers’ markets. Besides, students were given the chance to try new things like horse riding, 5-pin bowling, kayaking, rock climbing and making dream catcher - which is a native art work of the aboriginal people of Kamloops. As a finale of the English camp, students were asked to do a group presentation on Canadian culture and environment in Pecha Kucha style at the closing ceremony. All these activities helped extend students’ experience and enhance their self-confidence, in particular when using English in everyday situations.

English WeCan Summer, 2016 During the 2016 summer, ten students attended an English Enhancement Programme, English WeCan, organised by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Project WeCan. In the 27-day programme, they travelled to the Chinese University of Hong Kong and spent 99 hours reading 20 books and learning 500 vocabulary items. Through the outings and activities, they gained an extraordinary language learning experience.
